Asian Drama Fever

Thoughts based solely on the first episode which btw you can now watch online.

Jerry Yan returns as his best played character – handsome rich boy with attitude. Love it! I truly believe that only Jerry has the amazing bone structure to perfectly pull off a condescending yet attractive look. (That’s right, in the world of drama, sons of rich families always have cheekbone that are more spectacular than normal. Their fathers always seem to carry prominent mustaches.) As of now, the audience haven’t been attacked by Jerry’s full blown smile yet. Even his reluctant turn of the lips, a secret smile to himself, is so cute! I expecting ratings to go off the roof when Jerry finally shows his signature dimples later on.

On to Alan Luo… he’s also playing a character that really suits him. Sadly even after gaining great popularity in Taiwan, he still has that poor boy look. So playing the orphan Yuan Da Ying is totally appropriate. Alan Luo on any screen has always cracked me up. His facial expressions might sometimes seem immature but they come naturally to his face. I hate it when actors force themselves to be funny. Alan is just a pro by nature.

Mine and everyone else’s most anticipated drama starts airing July 27th! Starring three of the hottest stars in Taiwan. I sure because Jerry Yan (of F4) and Wu Chun (from Fahrenheit), the show will be a big hit in much of Asia. Here are videos of the 5 minute preview and the opening theme.

I’m expecting Jerry to be amazing. He has the most experience but all three male leads are known to be very hardworking. That’s how they got to where they are now right? Hardwork and good looks. I’m not too familiar with the female cast. Coco is known in the modeling world and I’ve seen her on talk shows like KangXi. Both leading ladies have made very few drama before, none of them well-known. I hope they hold their own on the screen.

The movie that I’ve been patiently waiting for is coming out this week!

花より男子 Final / Hana Yori Dango Final – June 28th, 2008

The film is set one year after Tsukushi Makino’s graduation. The story focuses on a major incident that the five main characters become involved in, while also depicting the ups and downs of Tsukushi and Tsukasa’s relationship.

‘Hanazakari no Kimitachi e’ SP
No date has been released… no release date has been found by me for when this one hour special will air. However, the filming has reported started. The special will hopefully air by the end of 2008, if not, then early 2009.

According to Fuji TV, the special will take place half a year after the series’ end. With Osaka Gakuen getting ready for an upcoming Valentine’s Day event, Sano (Oguri) and Nakatsu (Ikuta) reflect on the final week of their last summer vacation, which falls into the timeline of the original series between episodes 7 and 8. The special also includes a graduation scene and addresses the relationship between Mizuki (Horikita) and Sano.

And now, my two most anticipated dramas for this summer season!

籃球火 / Hot Shot – July 27th, 2008

With the much loved Jerry Yan (F4 leader) and Wu Zun (Fahrenheit hotty). This sports drama is looking to air at the end of July. I’m not a big fan of basketball as theme (aka excuse to play cool) for a drama. But since both actor’s skills have improved since their beginning days, I’m very much looking forward to Hot Shot. The third person is Alan Lu from 娛樂百分百 and Corner with Love.

魔王 / Maou

Ikuta Toma’s new drama is a remake of The Devil, a popular dective drama that aired in Korea last year. The other major character is played by Ohno Satoshi from Arashi. I’m absolutely thrilled for the debut of Maou since Toma, in my book, amazing at portraying all his different characters! Just watch the trailer to get a peak at what I’m talking about.

Ohno Satoshi will be playing the role of a two-faced lawyer, one of which is a kind hearted soul and the other who is plotting revenge, using his brilliant mind, on the person who killed his relative. On the other hand, Ikuta Toma will play the double lead role of the man, who has become a detective due to his dark past, who is pursuing the mysterious series of murders and fighting against the devil (maou).

You’ll hear from me again when these drama come out to let you know if they rock or disappoint.
